CEO, CRC for Greenhouse Accounting

The Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) for Greenhouse Accounting is an unincorporated cooperative research venture between twelve partners. It seeks to provide research outputs for land-based greenhouse emissions accounting at the national and project levels. The CRC is governed by a Board of 12 members chaired by Sir Rupert Myers.

Its annual budget of cash and in-kind resources is $10 million. The Head Office of the CRC is located at the Australian National University in Canberra with CRC laboratories in five other locations across Australia.

The CRC brings together scientists from a wide range of disciplines from seven research partners including universities and state and federal agencies. It is strongly focused on achieving practicable outcomes that benefit its stakeholders.

The CEO will be responsible for maintaining the CRC's values of excellence, innovation and independence in assisting its stakeholders in achieving greenhouse accounting based on the best available practices.

The CEO is responsible to the Board for:

Providing leadership to the CRC;
Building effective links between the partners, stakeholders and the wider community;
Managing a portfolio of research projects consistent with the vision and mission as expressed in the CRC's Strategic Plan;
Advising the Board on changes to the CRC's Science Plan;
Promoting the research outputs of the CRC and their adoption;
Promoting the education program of the CRC; and
Managing the human resources and finances of the CRC in accordance with the Board's directions.

Conditions: An attractive salary package will be negotiated with the successful applicant. The appointment will initially be for 3 years.

Selection Criteria

Substantial experience in management and leadership.
A higher degree or equivalent accreditation and standing in a relevant science discipline.
Evidence of an ability to foster a collaborative research culture among researchers from different disciplines and agencies.
Demonstrated leadership in the development of research programs and activities.
Demonstrated willingness and ability to work with and build relationships with industry to seek practical applications of CRC science
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
Excellent people management, communication and negotiation skills and the ability to focus on outcomes.
Demonstrated commitment to delivering excellent training of postgraduate students and young researchers
Ability to understand and deal effectively with the policy environment in which the CRC operates.
Well-developed strategic planning, fund-raising and financial management skills.
Willingness to live and work in Canberra.
