Application Requirements and the Assessment Process

Applying for CRC GA Postgraduate Funding

  • Applications for postgraduate funding from the CRC for Greenhouse Accounting (Postgraduate Research Grants or PhD Scholarships) must be made on the appropriate application form, available from this website
  • Your application must include the names of both your academic (university) supervisor, and your nominated CRC supervisor, with whom you have discussed your proposed research topic prior to applying for funds. In practice, your academic and CRC supervisors may be the same person. You must also include the names and contact details of three referees.
  • You must submit a letter of support from each of your principal academic supervisor and your CRC supervisor, together with your application.
  • The description of your research, on the last page of the application form, must be limited to a single page. You may include a more detailed description with your application as a separate document if you wish.
  • Applications must be submitted in hard-copy format (with an original signature), and in electronic format (either by email or on disk).
  • Applications must be submitted by the relevant due date (details are available on our web site).

How the CRC Assesses Funding Applications

  • All applications are considered by a centre committee. The members of the committee are the CEO (or Deputy-CEO), the Education Manager, and at least one Program Leader (research).
  • Applications are ranked on the basis of the following criteria:

    Essential Criteria

    • Ph D - applicants must be eligible for admission to a PhD degree at their host university, including showing evidence of research capability
    • Masters by Research - applicants must be eligible for admission to a Masters degree at their host university
    • The research project msut be relevant to the objectives of the CRC GA.

     

    General Assessment Criteria: the final ranking of applicants who satisfy the essential criteria is based on the following:

    • Quality of research proposal
    • Academic merit of postgraduate and undergraduate performance
    • Publication history
    • Interpersonal/communication skills
    • Motivation/attitude
    • Referee comments

 

The recommendations of the assessment committee are taken to the next meeting of the Management Team of the CRC for discussion and approval. Once the selection process is complete, all applicants are informed of the outcome in writing. Written acceptance of an offer of funding is required before any funds can be made available. All postgraduate funding is governed by the conditions set out in the appropriate version of the document Conditions relating to the Award of a Cooperative Research Centre for Greenhouse Accounting funding.
