Background
In December 2002 the Australian Greenhouse Office, the New Zealand
Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, and the New Zealand Primary
Industries Council arranged and sponsored a joint forum on "Research
Priorities for Abatement of Non-CO2 Greenhouse Gas Emissions from
Agriculture”. A report from this forum, including a review
of strategic research requirements has now been published and is
available from www.maf.govt.nz/publications.
At this first forum it was agreed that further collaboration should
be fostered between researchers in Australia and New Zealand working
on non-CO2 emissions from agriculture. Apart from individual contact
being encouraged, it was agreed that a follow up forum should be
held in Australia in the third quarter of 2003.
The first two days will combine short oral and poster presentations
with workshop sessions, aimed at either fostering collaboration
or exploring new opportunities. On the 22nd October we have planned
a series of field trips to applicable research sites.
Objectives of the second forum
The key objectives of the second forum would be to provide:
- A forum for the exchange of research approaches and new ideas
to address the key priorities, that will,
- Expose researchers to each others work and capabilities, and
thus,
- Develop the key priorities identified in the report from the
first forum, leading to,
- Joint collaborative projects between researchers in Australia
and New Zealand, capturing the best technical skills, innovative
ideas and economies of scale between the two countries.
Submission of Abstracts
We would encourage ALL delegates to present a one page abstract detailing
either their current research work, or putting forward new ideas and
concepts for future work, within one of the following topic areas:
- Policy measures for achieving abatement
- Non-CO2 Greenhouse gas accounting methodologies
- Modelling of non-CO2 emissions
- Abatement measures of non-CO2 emissions
- Measurement Methods of non-CO2 emissions
- Effluent/ Waste Management (methane and/or nitrous oxide)
- Methane and soils or wetlands
Notes for submission:
As the aim is to foster collaboration in current work and future
ideas, we are NOT looking for abstracts on completed research, as
this is too late for collaboration. Abstracts will be published
in proceedings of the forum, but will only be edited for language
and readability.
- The Abstract must fit on a single A4 page in Times New Roman
11 Font and single line spacing, with page borders of 2.5 cm all
round (around 3000 characters as a guide);
- Cut and paste your abstract into a PLAIN TEXT email (no formatting),
with the name of the first author in the subject line;
- In the body of the email
- The title should be in upper case
- The authors names followed by addresses
- Corresponding authors email address
- The body of the abstract with headings in upper case
- If you have a figure or graphic in the abstract, then attach
the graphic to the email as a JPG file, clearly showing where
it should be inserted in the text (i.e. <insert Fig 1 here>.
- Abstracts should be emailed to greenhouse@ccem.com.au,
by the 15th September 2003.
Posters:
Posters can range from providing information and preliminary
data from an existing research project, to presenting new ideas,
or even just a promotion of the work. Posters will not be formally
presented but authors will be expected to be available to discuss
their poster in an informal setting on at least two occasions during
the forum. Posters should conform to accepted international conference
standards and will be mounted on a wall using blue tack, not Velcro.
Conference Registration
To confirm your place at the conference you must complete the
attached
